Welcome to Tolpuddle Old Chapel

Tolpuddle Old Chapel

Welcome to the renovated Tolpuddle Old Chapel.  This is a remarkable heritage building of great distinction and rarity. Its builders included four farm labourers, who later became known as Tolpuddle Martyrs: George Loveless, James Loveless, Thomas Standfield and John Standfield.

It is also a building with a new life in the present.  In the two hundred years it has been here, it has served as a place of Methodist worship, as a stable for animals, and as an agricultural store.  Now it is open to visitors interested in its history, and it is a local amenity for quiet contemplation, education and events to serve the well-being of the community.
